Boterhoek NV is a cattle breeding company, located in Lovendegem (Belgium).

Since 1993 we only breed Maine Anjou cattle, a breed which originated in France.

Due to sanitary reasons, NV Boterhoek is a completely closed business without supply of cattle from other companies. Only every second year a breeding bull is purchased in France. As a result, the company is free of BVD and IBR (status 3).

The objective of Boterhoek NV is breeding animals born naturally without cesarean sections, and that weigh about 1000 kg at the age of 2 years. Now, the number of caesarean sections is about 30%, but selecting certain lines from the available CRV material builds this percentage off systematically.

Other benefits of the Maine Anjou breed are the short calving interval (average 370 days), realizing strong growth with roughage and not the expensive concentrates, and the fact that the animals are not susceptible to scab.

Maine Anjou is also the perfect breed to cross with the Belgian white-blue, due to the passing of the fast growth without loss of conformation.
